cosmicgarden and I have made an effort to try some of the better restaurants in the area. I've come to the conclusion that this is the reason I put up with living in the crowded part of Massachusetts: access to good food. Even if we lived in Chelmsford, we would be cutting ourselves off from the wonderful selection of restaurants provided by Boston, Cambridge and even Somerville.
cosmicgarden and I were treated to dinner at
Evoo last night by her brother who was staying with us for
Linux World Expo. I started with the bitter endive salad with blue cheese which was truly exquisite. Although I was tempted by the parsley and garlic studded beef tenderloin, I opted for the butternut squash stuffed poblano pepper with goat cheese in mole sauce. I confess to liking Tex Mex far more than any other cuisine; I guess this is something I get from my family. My dinner was perhaps the best Mexican inspired entre I've ever had. Mild goat cheese contrasted subtly with the heat of the mole sauce. No one ingredient overwhelmed the entire meal - I could taste each one separately. As my meal progressed, the heat of the pepper and mole sauce grew slowly but steadily. The finish left me completely satisfied.
We should have asked for check after we finished dinner, but all three of us agreed to order desert. I had chocolate chipotle cheesecake - truly amazing.

Vox Populi
Date: 2005-02-18 01:15 pm (UTC)Vox has a reptutation for being both trendy and noisy, but we didn't find it so. We asked to sit upstairs (it's on two levels) and not every table was full. The service was very attentive (the bus boys a little too attentive; it's like they got a bounty on every plate they cleared), and the food was both original and well-presented. It was about $70 per person for the meal (plus tip, plus beverages), and they annoyed me by charging us for coffee and tea, but still well worth going.
