Tonight, I started looking through my "Drafts" email folder and look at old, unsent messages. I found a few written before I had a Live Journal account. I decided to post them here.
First up, from my biological Father:
Brucie’s soap box: On Nickelodeon’s promoting homosexuality to our kids
I've also included my response to my unsent response to my dad.
I received the original email on 7 June 2002 and composed the response a few days later.

Did you even watch the program? It was a discussion about alternative family structures and encouraging tolerance of people who are different from you. While growing up, I had a family structure different from anyone else I knew AND IT WASN'T EASY. So forgive me if I have some sympathy for people in a similar situations.
Along the same line, I could say, "I have two Fathers... and no living mother."

Quirk of Nature? We're talking about a range of 10 - 25 % of the world's population.
So you're saying treat them with fairness and respect, but don't talk about it, EVER. Shield me from opinions and ideas that are different from my own and God Forbid we should introduce challenging ideas to our Children!
Did you even notice that this show was run at 9:00 PM in each time zone? Aren't most children that you would want to shield from such offending content already in bed?
What about the parent's responsibility to know what they're children are watching?

So it's OK that they're gay, as long as they stay in the closet?

I agree that we are dumbing down society. I see most of it coming form the religious right and conservatives who are trying to legislate morality.

See my 10 to 25% of the population comment above. If they are homosexual to begin with, shouldn't we encourage people to be who they are and not to hate themselves for they're not?

Most people, gay or straight, DO NOT flaunt who they are. They just exist. It's not their fault that homophobic people find them offensive. It's your problem, not their's.

I know dozens of gay, lesbian and bisexual people. I have yet to meet anyone who said, "Try it out".

When the dominant paradigm makes the rules about what behavior is acceptable to the exclusion of almost anyone different, it is intimidation.

Thank god online petitions have almost no effect because they are easily forged. Shall I write a Perl script that will give you a million signatures?

You do have your point of view; it's even the dominant one. Now you're trying to censor someone else who has an alternate view. Don't attempt self-flattery by painting yourself as a moderate.
